Four ideas, one clear winner, three weeks
A startup studio ranked four SaaS concepts by real demand instead of internal debate — and moved the winner into a presale before writing a line of product code.

The situation
Northbeam Studio had four vertical-SaaS concepts on the whiteboard, all aimed at underserved small-business niches, and one build slot open for the quarter. Internally, opinion was split — the team's favorite (a concierge subscription for Airbnb hosts) had the loudest advocates and the weakest evidence.
What we ran
A Validation Sprint across all four ideas in parallel: positioning, a landing page, and a paid social + email campaign for each, with lead qualification built in from day one so a "conversion" meant an actual qualified prospect, not a bounce off a button.
- Ledger — AI bookkeeping for solo landscaping businesses
- Fleetwise — maintenance scheduling for small vehicle fleets
- Homebase Pro — turnover concierge subscription for Airbnb hosts
- PitchDeck AI — AI-generated fundraising decks for first-time founders
What happened
Ledger pulled away early — a 9.8% visitor-to-lead conversion rate, more than 3x the batch average, and four people put down a $49 deposit without a sales call. Homebase Pro, the internal favorite, converted at 1.9% and generated zero qualified calls in three weeks; exit-intent survey responses pointed to a trust barrier, not an awareness problem. The other two ideas landed in a genuine gray zone that warranted a short follow-up test rather than a guess in either direction.
The call
Go on Ledger. Kill Homebase Pro in its current form. Run a short, isolated follow-up on the two inconclusive ideas before deciding on either.
Northbeam moved directly into a Presale Sprint on Ledger, converting the 34 warm leads toward paid deposits ahead of build kickoff — see the Ledger presale campaign in progress.
